I recently acquired a 1997 German Masterman 5. What an awesome sounding bass.... but it weights a ton! Is that the general thing with the Fortress Mastermans? The body must be a serious slab of timber!

Some Warwicks are, but not all of them. My Steve Bailey sig artist series was near 5.3kg. That felt quite heavy too.

We don't usually hear complaints about Fortress basses, perhaps even when they are heavier it's not that much of a problem because they balance in a more traditional way. Most heavy Warwicks come from a combination of heavy body woods and thick necks. Come to think of it, your neck should be quite a handful and also for the Fortress specifically, it is wider at the nut. Did you know/notice that? :)
