Thanks guys! That was recorded with that large condenser mic you see, straight into an interface - no post production or plugins at all, no pedals or anything. Genzler Amplification MG800 and BA12-3 cab :)

Here's the same bass with Delano dual coils and also Honey Badger split-coils.

And one more with just the Honey Badger Heavy Hitters. These last two videos also feature the Noll TCM 4 XM 4-band preamp.

I like yout fretbuzz growl you get. Is it the low action?

Proper setup means different things to different people. Hell, for me it means different things on different basses. I like my two EBMMs to have that raspy fret buzz, but I don't like it on my Dolphin....

No offense taken! ;)

Man, for some reason, I never get email alerts for threads that I've subscribed to anymore, annoying.

A little fret buzz is fine with me. I'll take a page from Mr. Entwhistle and others on that topic. Seriously though, I've discovered through engineering and producing that distortion, in all its many forms, can be really helpful to make things sound better/stand out/sound right in a recorded mix - and I've found that if you engineer the tone just right, that fret buzz growl helps to make the bass stand out a bit. Think Flea's lines on Blood Sugar Sex Magik for one example.

I'm actually really particular about the way I like to have my bass setup and I change it all the time. I just played a bit too hard in these videos, mainly because I wasn't monitoring through an amp for one of them.

I recently listened to clips of the soapbar MEC pickups that this bass and one of my others have, and it really is a great sound, too. The ones that came on this 2016 bass look a little different than the ones on my 2003 LX 6, and I would LOVE to know how they differ internally, if there have been changes in the preamp, etc. I wish Warwick would do a better job of explaining and hyping their MEC pickups - without doing that, it gives the impression they're not worthy of that kind of language and enthusiasm, and probably reinforces peoples' desires to try other pickups instead.
