What's YOUR favourite solo?

It doesn't have to be the most technical solo, doesn't have to be epically long or be taken from your favourite song. It's that solo that makes your fingers tingle, makes you wanna break out the air guitar (or whatever instrument its played on), maybe even swap your 4 strings for 6......its that solo.

Here's mine: Most of you will probably know it already, its the intro solo to Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell. I was trawling through my dads record collection earlier today and pulled it out, cranking it up proper loud and rocking out whilst burning some food loosely described as 'dinner'.

Why's it so awesome? Its the 'revving' up of the guitar b4 hand, the awesome tone of the guitar, the little fast lick just before the notes of that final riff 'break out' between 1:25 - 1:29 leading to that awesomely slow final riff!! Man that's good!!!!!!

Come on guys, give all of us a reason to crank our computer speakers to the max and share your favourite solo's, even if they aint from such a cool song as mine :d

Only Chuck knew how to put as much emotion as this in a guitar solo (IMO of course). My favorite musician all time, my favorite band of all time, my favorite solo all time, my favorite song all time and my favorite album of all time. Can't get much better to me

Guita wise I always like to hear Pete Townshend soloing. Not technical, sometimes hitting the wrong notes but always fierce, emotional.. In Holland a guy named Anne Soldaat is my hero. Neil Young's solo's are great too!

Basswise... I'm not a big G n' R fan. I don't like Duff's playing and sound that much, but I do like his attitude. He did (at least) one great thing though: The intro of Sweet Child O'Mine. They always talk about Slash's riff, but the melodic line Duff's playing... I once heard he was inspired by Ronnie 'Plonk' Lane of The Small Faces/Faces, who was always playing those kind of melodic things (go to youtube and search for the Faces live version of Macca's Maybe I'm Amazed or their own Stay With Me).

I love Duff's playing, to me he is something like a model for a rock bass player. Sweet Child has unequivocally the best guitar solo on this side of the galaxy. Nobody listens to the bass behind it though, and how beautifully it works with its flawless rhythm and pauses. Relentlessly on the kick my good man. Mucho tasty.

Something a little different... The first time I heard this back in 1972 I was floored and its been a favorite of mine ever since. 25 years later and this man still has one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard. I don't know if you would consider this as scat or what, but Edgar Winters uses his voice like a solo instrument and I think its absolutely amazing.

So my number one pick for this thread is Edgar Winter's Vocal Solos (yes pural) in Tobacco Road

I love the Aesthetics of Hate Solo section. The way the guitars flow in and out of eachother and the bass grinding away underneath. Good choice.

I will say that witht eh Sweet Child thing, for what ever reason I have hated that song since I was able to complain (when that started I don't know because I can't remember) but that bass line does actually make it almost listenable. The bass bit is great and really complements the song, but I just can't stand the guitar part.

But for me, my favourite solo has to be the bass solo in Motorhead's Stay Clean. It doesn't take away from the song, it adds to it, builds itself up and keeps everything sounding full. It is also "THE" bass tone in my opinion. If I could have anyones tone it would have to be his. Whether I could do it any justice is another matter. For those not able to handle the awesomeness of distorted bass and Motorhead, skip to 1:10
